What is ProVideoSchool?
ProVideoSchool.com is a unique online software training company that teaches students from around the world with live, weekly, instructor-led classes via web-conferencing. You are able to see the instructors desktop on your screen as he/she is teaching while following on a conference call. This allows for seamless two-way communications and facilitates questions when they come up - very much like learning in an actual classroom.
How do the online classes work?
Students log-in and join an online web conference scheduled at a specific date and time by the instructor. This web-conferencing software which is downloaded the first time you join a conference allows for the student to see the instructors full screen in real-time. Students also place a phone call into the conference call line so that they can listen to and converse with the instructor during the class.
How much does it cost?
Class costs vary depending on the software being taught and the length the class runs. Currently the Final Cut Pro classes being offered in 2008-2009 are $500 for a 6-week class.
Do I need a PayPal account to pay for the classes?
While we use PayPal as our method to accept payments, you do not need a PayPal account and can pay using a major credit card in additional to PayPal.
What experience levels are taught?
Currently the Final Cut Pro class is tailored for students who consider themselves to be at the beginner through intermediate level. If you are are an advanced user but want to learn more or tackle a specific problem you may be having - then our one-on-one sessions may be for you.
How long do the classes run?
The Final Cut Pro class being offered this season runs for 6 weeks with a class session once per week - lasting approximately 2 hours.
Do I get a certification or degree?
Currently we do not offer any sort of certification or degree upon the completion of our program. This class is purely for teaching you Final Cut Pro - and we can assure you you will be very well equipped to handle editing on FCP when you are done with our class sessions.
What classes are currently taught?
We are currently teaching one class - Apple Final Cut Pro.
Will you be adding clvin the future?
Yeah - it is our plan to expand our class offerings somewhere down the road. For now we want to keep a narrow focus so that we can do as good a job as possible in that area.
What are the system requirements for the classes?
You need to have a copy of Final Cut Pro on any system that meets Apple's requirements for running it. While we teach on the latest version of Final Cut Pro it is possible for you to use an older version if you are okay with that. You also need to have a broadband internet connection to get a good experience from the live online training - we recommend at least 1mb downstream and 512k upstream. The student experience greatly depends on having a fast reliable Internet connection. You also need to have access to a phone (or internet phone that can make outside phone calls) so that you can call in the conference number during the class. If you're unsure whether or not you meet the requirements then we strongly suggest you join our free weekly demo class - this way you can see for yourself if the experience is going to work for you. In the end - whether or not you have meet the requirements to join the class is totally up to you.
While not necessary, we recommend a dual-monitor system - that way you can use one monitor to see the instructor's desktop and one monitor to have Final Cut Pro running on. This way you can follow along while using Final Cut Pro. If you only have one monitor you can still take the class - but it might be frustrating if you like to try out what you've just learned and you keep having to switch back-and-forth between applications. Again, this is totally up to you.
What web conferencing software is required and where can I download it?
The software we use is called Yugma and it is downloaded from Yugma.com when you first join a conference. You can download it in advance if you want to to save time before the demo class.
Is the web conferencing software free?
Yes - it is free to use the Yugma software and you need not register at their website to join a demo class or an actual class.
What if I'm not sure if the classes are worth it? Is there a trial?
We offer a free weekly demo class that allows you to see our method of teaching in action to decide whether or not this type of training is for you. There is no cost or obligation to do this - so we invite you to join up anytime and check it out. The demo class schedule is listed on the Online Classes > Final Cut Pro page.
What if I sign up for a class but have to miss a session?
We archive all our classes so that if you miss a class we can send you a video of the class. If you miss a class please e-mail us and let us know the details and we will provide a way for you to download what you've missed.
Is there a one-on-one option for private lessons and/or specific troubleshooting?
Yes - we offer one-on-one a la carte training or troubleshooting help on an as-needed basis.
If I can't call into the conference call due to long distance/price can I use web-based phone software to listen to the instructor?
Calling the conference call number is a requirement - if you are from outside the U.S. and calling the conference number is cost prohibitive then we'd recommend looking into a web based phone service like Skype that can still call International numbers for a reduced price. If this is still not an option for you - then we'll look into using a web teleconference for a class on a case-by-case basis. If this is your situation - please e-mail us and we will see what we can do. Setting up a special class where the conference is done entirely on the web for international students might be an option.
Can I get a refund if I don't like the classes?
We recommend that you take full advantage of our free no-obligation demo class to see if the teaching method works for you. If, however, you do sign up for a class but want a refund midway through we will review issuing a pro-rated refund or discounting the remainder of the class while providing you with archived copies of the class sessions. Please e-mail us in this instance.
What is the difference between the tutorials and the online classes?
The tutorials section of our site features pre-recorded video tutorials that are free to view at anytime. Our online classes are cost-based live, instructor-led classes that happen online and allow for two-way communication between teacher and student. Feel free to take advantage of one or both of these tools.
